I always wait at the machine, with fingers crossed, butterfly wings fluttering, and an anxiousness that drives me borderline mad….will I get the “jackpot”? Will I win this time?
Then I sit back and calculate just how much of my time and self that I have invested. All of my hard work…wrapped up in sleepless and tiresome nights, while maintaining a professional demeanor after 1 hour of zoning out (replacing sleep).
I worked hard for those slot machine coins. I’m wasting them on “refurbished” metal. As if the large chunk of metal itself, is the prize. Even when I play its game, there is never a guarantee that I’ll win. I could sit there for hours, throwing away my earnings, and leave my seat a broken loser.
But that metal will have a replacement.
The machine is very forthcoming with that truth, but draws in its players with flashing lights, addictive false hopes, and minimal gains at best. Even if you win, how much of your life did you waste, sitting there pulling that lever, hoping to be the next winner?
What the slot machine will not tell you, is that it NEEDS “YOU”, to keep its worth relevant. After all…without a player it’s a useless chunk of scrap metal.
