There is that one part in “Alice through the Looking Glass” that made me cry like a needy puppy. When Alice restored the time, and the Queen of Hearts realized that, for her entire life, nothing turned out how she wanted it. She walked away down trodden, and with her back facing her sister, she asked; “Why doesn’t anyone love me?” It did not seem like her question fit the moment, until you understood that, her lack of feeling loved, and her feeling of being betrayed by the closest one to her, was her reasoning for living a life fueled by the fear of others towards her, and her power gained through anger. You realized instantly, It was not her fault, but even so, she was the master of her sea and could have changed the outcome of her life , long ago. (No spoiler alerts) 🙂
At that moment, the hardhearted, hate filled, power munging queen, was every bit of vulnerable. You felt her pain, her defeat, and her longing to be loved. It was the most heartbreaking and heartfelt point of the movie. It also showed me a valuable lesson about myself and all of us. We thrive off of love. When we do not have this essential of life, we turn to our most sinful nature….unforgiveness and hate. When we do not feel loved, we can lose all sense of doing what is right. Bitterness takes over like a deadly virus, until years pass by and we are still grumbling about our pain….in volatile ways. We need compassion. We need love.
The moral of the story was…we cannot change the past, but we can learn from it.
