“Why do we eat platanos?” Asked my son
Plantains see the best of life
They see the pretty women dance
And macho men in their fedoras,
They tease the locals whom climb the trees
Forgetting that they’re vulnerable
To hard ocean breeze
They watch the planes fly through the skies
Excitement from vacationers
They’ve befriended the lizard, bugs and tocororo
They socialize in bunches
Never found solo
The most tender end up
On our pearly white plates…..
“Ven, sentarse y comer!”
I will set the date!
