Are we supposed to display our charity acts before the world? How will people know that we give, if we do not show them?
Ever since I have been on social media, I have seen so many people, excellent people I am sure, continually announce their deeds. Plainly and simply put. I have done the same. Then I thought……..am I really supposed to be doing this? Showing people that I am doing something great in the Kingdom of God? If you are laboring in the ministry of Jesus Christ, why would you need to boast of it, when God will speak for you? Matthew 7:16 “You will know them by their fruits.”
On the human side of everything, it is a part of our sinful nature to want to boast and brag, to be seen. It is very difficult at times to live in humility when it comes to giving alms (charity, food, money, donations.) It is tempting even, to give away the secrets of our giving. However, think about this, even the devil knows the scripture and his desire is to make us slip up, if he can’t make us slip up with obvious sins, he will try to get us at sins that seem okay, but what does the word of God say about what may seem right to us? Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” In your eyes it may seem so normal and right to spill your charity to the world…..”Look what I am doing! Look what I am doing for the world! Look what I am doing for God!” Praise God! You are doing great things, but, moving on to the next. So you receive praise from man, but how can God reward you openly, if you have already rewarded yourself and have got what you wanted…..praise from man? Every tactic that the enemy tries, he does so in order for us to not see any part of Gods glory and shorthand Blessings in our lives, that should have been. Jesus says in His word: Matthew 6:3-4 “But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret, and thy father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee. openly.”
People will know you by the fruits that you bear. God will show them who you are, and He will sound a trumpet about you. Imagine a parent who brags about how wonderful their kids are. Once mom and dad speak highly of their children, the eyes of strangers are watching to see their greatness. Well, God is even better! He openly rewards His people so that not only we will receive every Blessing intended and prepared for us, but He openly rewards so that people can see God working in us, believe in Him, so that souls will be saved.
I often bypass personal postings from people that boast about their own works, and they gather many followers. I like to connect to those quiet Saints of God, because they will be the very ones who man overlooks due to “lack of popularity”, but they are the ones who have the most awesome, Blessed and EXPLOSIVE ministries in Christ. Boasting is also connected to pride and vanity. How can we have servant hearts if we are prideful? Spotlight does not always mean, God life.
