I am always excited for the New Year to begin….even if the old year ended on a bad note. Life does happen, no matter our traditions and celebrations. Just because we expect, it does not mean that our expectations will be fulfilled the way that we see them in our heads. I ended my 2013 in no surprise to myself at all…..extremely exhausted. I exhausted my emotions, my love, my kindness, my care, etc. in 2013. By the time I reached 2014 my cup was totally emptied and it needed refilled.
When we are expecting to do bigger and better things in the Lord, in our New Year, I hope we all understand that we are making a proclamation that no matter what, no matter the consequences, no matter the friends lost, no matter the doors shut, no matter what, God’s will be done. With that being said, we must proceed with caution in 2014. Jesus Christ has already chosen who He is going to use and set a part this year.
One thing I have learned and have always been taught by those with wisdom, in every point of growth in my faith, is that if nothing is going on, if everything is just right, and life is so perfect, then there is something wrong indeed…..(NOT giving excuses for the sins that are committed and the bad that comes from it. Not talking about that.) However, when the pressure is tight, and you feel like you are at your whit’s end, when tired is not even the word…..then God is doing something and you are getting ready to birth greatness in the Kingdom of God. Think of it as a woman travailing in pregnancy……she is going through the pain in order to, in the end, hold that Blessing and promise in her arms. It is not called “labor” for no reason.
After I put my son down for bed, I went into the kitchen to make some coffee and Ramen. For some reason, the kitchen is always my place to think. My Ramen soup spilled over in the microwave and then it spilled all over the cabinet, and I was so annoyed. Instinctively. I said; “Oh Jesus! Please help me!” I say His name to keep my cool when something petty as spilled food, happens. You would be surprised, or maybe not, how something so simple can turn into an opened door for satan to dispatch his disgusting imp’s to taunt you….if you let it happen. The next thing you know, you find yourself in sin cursing, because your food spilled.
I was thinking about what my husband came home and told me about church service. He did not cover every detail, but he said enough. The term God placed in my spirit while I was cleaning up my spilled Ramen, was; “Seething Pot.” I repeated the term out loud, and I asked the Lord what it meant. Of course His answer….Go find out. It’s funny how things work. As I sat down with the rest of my Ramen and coffee, I was excited to find out what seething pot meant. My internet would not work do to networking issues . It worked all day until that moment. I live off of dictionary.com. So I thought, if I could just get the meaning, I can take it from there. My internet worked long enough to look the word up, the meaning, and find it in the scripture.
According to dictionary.com, a seething pot is used for boiling provisions. Straight to the point. When the heat is turned up, the water boils. That pressure is then released. It creates something savory, whether it is hot food, or something hot and soothing to drink. It also sterilizes and purifies. There was a purpose in the heat, the boil and the pressure. In the end when it is ready to be used, it satisfies the hands who created it and the soul who consumed it. It is READY and PREPARED to be received.
When God has called and chosen families to ministry, our entire homes are put into the seething pot. Not just the men, not just the women……but He also called our children. That feeling of pressure, it will quickly make you feel exasperated, even if you know what it is about. Nevertheless, that anger is supposed to drive us to prayer, fasting, lying prostrate (and desperate) before the Lord. It is not supposed to make us backslide. What gets us to that point of feeling like we are going to, is the testing of our faith. God will give allowance to the enemy as He did to Job, but only with what He knows we can handle, in order to overcome, prove that God is faithful and ALL powerful, and that we are faithful to Jesus and the callings over our lives.
If you are in the faith and your year started off dramatic and crazy, do not think for a moment that this means your year is going to be bad. The heat is turned up, your life is boiling in the seething pot and you are feeling the pressure……….understand that God pointed you out, saw you in a crowed of MANY, appointed and anointed you for a special assignment that ONLY YOU can carry out. This pressure is to prepare us for the greatness of our callings. This goes for children as well. Do not be intimidated by this pressure. Do not go into hiding. Do not run from it, because you cannot. If you try to avoid it, you will drive yourself mad, because you were purposed for this. You cannot replace it with anything else. Step outside of your norm, and be like Joshua. Do not be surprised when Jesus calls you out to do things that only make since to you (maybe not even you), a few or less. Be obedient.
In 2014, we are going to see double for our trouble, of what we started off with, if we allow for this God ordained pressure to refine us. God’s increase in our lives will not just be for ourselves, but to continue to build up the Kingdom of God.
Stay in the seething pot and proceed in this New Year, with caution.
