I am so drawn to your intellect…
Your beautiful smile, and your respect!
Not another one of those!
You’ll see my love, if you can wash some clothes!
Do some dishes, cook a meal,
But don’t bother me with that “romance” deal.
I’ve been down that road, it only lasts for a minute…
Stay married long enough, you’ll see what’s really in it.
Roses die, and candy is meant to devour,
These little gestures can quickly turn sour….
When “real” love is not considered, to be something more than tangible,
A considerate heart and mind is always more invaluable.
Don’t get me wrong, the sweet cards are great,
But they end up being a traditional trait.
When you know when you’ll be surprised, on a particular date,
It becomes so mechanical, and I become so irate 😉
Unconditional love is not on Thanksgiving,
When family finally gather and partake in weight gain living.
Nor on Christmas morn, with lights and festive decor,
Or gifts that go wasted, the holidays can be a chore.
Let’s not forget the month of February,
When “love” seems to bloom,
Social networks filled with corny messages
and “Will you be mine..”, seems to loom.
But once the 15th finally arrives,
Back to real life living it is…
Silence in the house,
Communication at a loss
You meant something to me yesterday,
But now, before you, comes my work and my boss.
I never understood how love can be measured,
By “things” that do not last.
Maybe my generation needs a crash course,
On love straight from the past….
When money was scarce,
People weren’t so picky.
Wedding rings had 1 diamond…
And Picking gifts weren’t so tricky.
When weddings were conducted,
Straight from the backyard.
And what made it all special
Was virginity…not “Thank you” cards.
Simplicity in love is God all by Himself.
He shows us how to make it work,
Without putting Him on a shelf.
He didn’t bribe us with gifts and gold to buy our love for Him.
He gave His life, and paid our dues,
More than a gesture for our sins.
I’m not denouncing the loving acts, in life that make us smile..
But what matters more is love through God,
These memories are more than worthwile.
